Ferrari have become philosophical about the assessment of last year's lost title realising that it was not lost by a mistaken strategy call in the final race but rather by a series of blunders early in the year, some down to to Ferrari but more down to Alonso.
Australia-Alonso points wrong way
Malaysia- weather error and engine failure
China- Alonso jump starts
Monaco- Alonso crashes and starts from the back
Britain- Alonso gets drive through for illegal overtake.

These squandered points are now being blamed for last year's failure. Domenicalli who had considered resigning after last year is now saying
" We paid the price for not having gained points early on........We have to start well"
Tombazis says " We have some very ambitious development objectives in terms of aerodynamics, car systems and other things"
Aldo Costa-" The first race package will be managed very aggressively"
(the tightly packaged push-rod suspension is given particular mention by Costa)
And finally Montezemelo says " The real problem is not who will be the strongest competitor in terms of driving, it is about who has the best car. If we have the best car, then we are not afraid of any driver."

So have they got the best car? Or should Alonso be afraid?
Maybe this is why he's is churning out the laps at a rate of knots.

Jensonb responds humorously to seemingly innocuous headline:

"Okay Ferrari, see, here's your first problem. All the other teams will be using F1 cars, not Nike Running Shoes."

They dont have the best car after 3 days of testing!!

Wednesday's action was watched on by the team's owner Dietrich Mateschitz, but it was his right-hand man Marko who gushed the loudest.
"If a race were held now, we would lap everybody," the Austrian told Bild newspaper. "How our car goes through the corners is amazing."

Thats embarrasing for Ferrari, when your main competitor states :wavey: we will lap you :wavey:

That's great Helmut, but several of the teams are running 2010 cars.

Moron :hammer:

Wouldn't we expect the 2010 cars to be faster though? I remember Christian Horner saying the DDD was worth in the region of 2 sec a lap

I think its 2010 cars with 2011 features.

The day a new year's F1 Cars aren't at least roughly the same speed as the previous year's I'll eat my hat, but my point more generally was that it's not really a valid comparison.

Edit: Also, yeah, what racechick said - technically they're interim cars.

We will all see in the first few races of the season. Remember last year people weren't claiming the RB6 was superior on pace after Bahrain, it took a few more races for people to draw that conclusion and that was with a pretty significant performance differential.

But claiming you will lap everyone is a little outrageous especially with these just being test sessions.

Indeed. I mean, are we to assume Helmut knows the fuel loads and programmes of all the other teams? :hehe:

In 2008, Red Bull were a laughing stock. Now they are the reigning holders of both world championships. Virgin & Force India could easily spring a surprise for all you know. And McLaren are rarely slow these days.

I missed no point, you and Helmut are merely guilty of hubris.
