He's going for a huge new multi-year contract - many believe well over $100M. This weekend a driver on very little, in his car, outclassed his team-mate and almost won...the race victory twice taken away from him by factors out of his own control.
I'd go as far to say Mercedes would have won the last five constructor championships with guest drivers!
So, 2021, Hamilton on >$100M or Russell on say $4M (he's on $1M according to the press but suspect this is exaggerated)?

How about Russell for Bottas and Perez for Hamilton?
Saves a bundle and provides competitive racing within the team for a change.
You had to go there didn’t you! Perez will never win a race...
Hamilton and Bottas to Williams to prove it’s not the car. Love to see Russell, Perez and Max dual it out at the front. Lots of entertaining conspiracy theories on the net as to the what and why of that Merc team screw up. That race proved the Merc design team and the car are the true stars of F1. LH must be doing everything possible to be back in that car for the last race.
Putin car Russel instead of Bottas is my choice, as Bottas is broken man after few years with Hamilton. Russel is fresh with future ahead and could take over when Hamilton finish. He fought hard and is full with confidence, also very good driver. Bottas not good enough.
Russel race was excellent, exciting new driver and stood up with pressure. But the one race does not equal him to a seven time world champion who does this week in week out, year in year out.
LEWIS has it easy with partner Bottas. Anyone who thinks is he would not raise the game with harder partner is bit silly.
Just what I think.

Merc has been protecting Lewis. We won't see Russell in the car next to Lewis anytime soon unless .....

It's the car. Russell has proven it.
Hamilton's negotiating position may have taken quite the hit.
If it were the car we would see Mercedes 1-2 at sakhir. You would say that safety car, pit blah blah It is plain stupidity to expect anyone to win without a good car, OTOH it is another plain stupidity to say LH won because he had the best car.
Best car! Best car! And MV got the pole position. Wasn't he driving a car other than Mercedes???? He got the pole because he has the best car This is the mindset of those poor who can't tolerate the greatness of LH.
