Mercedes 1/2, the only thing left to keep this season interesting is to see if a Merc can go 1/2 for every race this year and make history. Even the NE Patriots have allowed other teams to win every few years. can’t see much changing for the 2020 season either but who knows what may happen with 2021 and the new changes. If Honda keeps improving and Ferrari continuing to choose weak leaders Red Bull & Torro Rosso may be the best challenge to Merc. next year.

Qualifying went rather lively in my opinion. Q1 set the stage for what followed as a ramp-up in the action for Q2 and Q3. Q2 was especially a barn-burner. Talking mid-pack here. Hulkenberg/Renault continue to mistify running first hot, then cold, then hot again. Ferrari burned their own barn keeping LeClerc in Q1. What were they thinking? Tactics aside, Monaco is LeClerc's home track and home town. What better way to fly the flag than give him all the track time they can. Strange.

Looking like Mad Max is the only wild card in the top six. Hope he can break the code on a victory Sunday.

Russell/Williams almost bought the wall straight on, at least according to the radio transmission. Handling is most definitely a challenge in the Williams camp. But not turning in at all? That is a bit dicey.

Anyway, cheers guys. Hope all goes safely for the grid tomorrow.

Leclerc is the driver of the day. Thanks to him, after a very successful qualification period, started in 16th but quickly succeeded to put himself out of the race thus the torture of watching battle for 12th was ended.

Worst driver of the day was Max Verstappen, who did nothing but prevented Bottas for making a double for Mercedes. He should get 3 penalties but only got one (interesting fairness from FIA).

Anyway winner was no surprise. Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton.

Yup, should have been another 1/2 for Mercedes. F1 must be getting too much $ to keep this location on the event agenda. It may have been a great event up to 20 or so years ago but given these cars that track‘s only hope for a race to break out is if it rains. Once again the announcers should be given an award as they worked their butts off trying to turn a turd into a dog. It’s bad when both my wife (huge Hamilton fan) and I watched the commercials when the screen got split. Montreal is next week, given that it is on in the afternoon we won’t be watching as we both feel that F1 is early morning background noise while we have our coffee, breakfast, catch up on the news, emails, vacuuming, clothes washing ...

If Lauda were at this race he would have personally gotten on that radio and told crybaby Lewis to shut-up and drive. I have not heard that much whining in any other F1 race. Also Hamilton disrespects the quiet respectful podium celebration in honour of Lauda by foolishly running around on the track like a junior high school kid. That was in such poor taste. I did notice though that Vettel took advantage of that time alone on the podium to chat up the lovely Princess!

Finally though Merc messes up their 1-2 record with a slow pit stop for Bottas letting Verstappen to elbow his way by. So a Merc 1-3 which is almost as depressing for F1 but at least their record# of 1-2 wins is broken.

A higher power intervened today and retired LeClerc before he could injure himself or anyone else. Notice his car was the only race retirement. That in itself must stand as some sort of record for Monaco. :D

Charles is a talented driver, but this weekend showed he still has some growing to do to mature into the sport. No doubt he got hosed in Q1. But to intentionally try to hand jamb the car up the pack is a non-starter among racing professionals. On the plus side, Ferrari tends like wild drivers, so he'll fit the niche until he settles down.

At one point in the race both Williams/Russell and /Kubica advanced to P15. May be wrong there, but think that is a season position high for them.

It was Monaco, it was a procession, Hamilton trundled around at the front, Verstappen did very little to attack to force Hamilton to up the pace. This has always been the problem with Monaco, too tight and twisty for drivers to race, in most cases, the only way to pass is the driver in front hitting the barrier.

The only talking points was Verstappen's, extremely light punishment, a 5 second time penalty for an unsafe release, which ultimately cost Bottas two places, while Giovinazzi received a 10 second time penalty for what I would consider a racing incident. And Leclerc's kamikaze diving, for which he was lucky to not have taken out Hulkenberg with that lunge into La Rascasse.
