Even with some aero upgrades which Red Bull oddly enough desperately need, their Renault, uh, TAG Heuer engine is still subpar...

Yes Ricciardo was voted best driver by most publications for 2016, so it he had been in that Mercedes he would be reigning world champ right now. Versatppen could have done it as well.

Hamilton's car was not the problem in fact he won more races and got more pole positions in that car than Rosberg got in his. Hammy just drove inconsistently. His many poor starts and putting it into the wall in Baku cost himself alot of points and the championship unfortunately. He was even gifted a win in Monaco but it wasn't enough.

Ricciardo would have gotten it done!

bullpoo! You talkin out your arse man an I reckon you know it. Even Danni can't drive a car with a blown engine. Danny's best out there but he ain't superman.
Reason Hamilton got more races and poles than Rosberg even with a fist load of technicals, is because he ran circles round Goldilocks 9 times out of 10.

You just want to deny the reality that Lewis could have performed better in 2016! He was inconsistent with the slump at the end of 2015 and through the beginning of 2016, his poor starts giving away 4 poles and of course Baku in the wall. He wasn't driving like a champion needed to.

Also James Allen pointed out that as much as Hamilton wanted to promote the reliability angle, on top of the bad starts it was Lewis being mentally elsewhere on many occasions in 2016 where he gave points away to the opposition and ultimately the wdc. JA: "... he also had three race weekends where he seemed to be mentally elsewhere ..."

Ricciardo though would had got it done! James Allen had him as #1 driver for 2016.
