British Touring Car driver Andrew Jordan will compete against nine others for a chance to compete in the Bathurst 1000km in October in a fifth Holden Commodore run by Kelly Racing. The TV series that will decide the lucky winner will be called the Shannons Supercar Showdown and will be broadcast on Australian TV channel 7Mate.

The prize drive will be in a Holden Commodore VE II run by front-running squad Kelly Racing, with the show's host, former V8 Supercar driver Grant Denyer joining the victor in the famous race at Mount Panorama.

"This is a brilliant concept which again demonstrates the enormous depth of V8 Supercars to have a mainstream reality show based around the living the dream premise," said V8 Supercars CEO Martin Whitaker.

"An enormous amount of hard work has been happening behind the scenes to make this work and I applaud Kelly Racing for its initiative. The show is sure to be a big hit and who knows, it may just unveil the next star of V8 Supercar racing."

Jordan is the only 'international' driver who will be competing for the drive, along with five male Australians, three female Australian drivers, and New Zealander Nick Cassidy.

"This is a reality TV show about finding new driving talent, but another big part of 'Shannons Supercar Showdown' is seeing behind the scenes of Kelly Racing and looking at how a V8 Supercars team operates," said Kelly Racing driver Rick Kelly.

"You will really see the ups and downs of the sport and the emotion behind it, not just the smile in front of the camera for that small moment."

"You will really see the emotion behind the scenes both in the preparation at the workshop as well as at the race track. For the first time people will get to see what really does happen when the team doesn't go so well, when we are upset and how we gather that up and work together as a race team to try and bounce back."

"We are quite excited to be the first to offer that to the V8 Supercar fans, motorsport fans and TV viewers in general. We would love it if this show brings some new fans to the sport as well."

What a amazing opportunity for these drivers to compete in the Bathurst 1000. Wow!!
A V8 supercar is a totally different beast than that Vauxhall that Andrew races in the BTCC. Anyway Andrew can't do any worst than Jason Plato when he binned it many years ago at Bathurst when driving for the Holden racing team while Peter Brock is your co-driver. What a crap way for Brocky to end his Bathurst career without even doing a lap in the race. I"ll will never forget that. :banghead:
