Former double World Champion Mika Hakkinen was forced to flee his $12m home on Saturday after it caught fire in the night, according to reports.

The 39-year-old Finn escaped the blaze in Southern France along with two other women, one believed to be his girlfriend.

The trio were taken to hospital as a precaution and were later discharged without injury.

The ten-bedroom villa, located in the village of Callian in the Provence region, suffered extensive damage to two of its three storeys.

The fire was reported to have been triggered by an electrical fault in Hakkinen’s trophy cabinet.
