According to recent rumours, if Fernando Alonso chooses to stay at Renault, he will become one of Formula 1 s highest paid drivers.
It is believed that Alonso will make around $46 million a year if he chooses not to exercise a clause in his contract which allows him to leave the Renault F1 team before the 2009 season. It is understood that Alonso s manager negotiated the figure of $46 million because it was $1 million more than the amount Kimi Raikkonen gets paid, although there are other rumours that the Finnish driver earns over $50 million a year.
