It has been reported in the German press that double Formula One World Champion Mika Hakkinen is divorcing his wife Erja.
The news is a surprise to some as the pair were thought to have had a very solid relationship. “I am very surprised”, German motor sport commentator Hans-Joachim Stuck said. “To me they always seemed like the Finnish version of Michael and Corinna Schumacher a perfect couple.”
The couple have two young children and currently live in Monaco. Mika Hakkinen has recently retired from the DTM, the German touring car series, and Erja Hakkinen is a TV journalist.
