Prodrive blow as McLaren talks break down

The controversy over customer cars is still ongoing with a hearing set for later this month to determine whether Prodrive are eligible to enter Formula One in 2008, and arbitration hearings this week between Spyker, Toro Rosso and Super Aguri.

With the uncertainty over their future, Prodrive have been dealt a further blow as talks with McLaren have broken down. The two teams were widely linked although there was never any official confirmation Prodrive boss David Richards had claimed in the past that a car and engine deal had been agreed, but he never revealed who the deal was with.

As yet, neither McLaren or Prodrive have made any official comments on the matter, although it is widely rumoured that the deal breaker was the Concorde Agreement confusion. Over the weekend, Ron Dennis explained that the deal with Prodrive would only be signed if there was complete clarity over their entry.

Renault were at one point hotly tipped to be the suppliers for the new team, so perhaps this is an option open to the team. However with the controversy of the legality of their entry hanging over their heads, it is not expected that there will be any confirmations over Prodrive s partners until the hearing is completed.
