Raikkonen Flying in Bahrain Test

Kimi Raikkonen again topped the timesheets as testing continued in Bahrain after a two day break. Raikkonen was quickest of the Ferraris, completing a total of 66 laps on day four of the test. His team-mate, Felipe Massa, managed 53 laps until a hydraulics issue ended his test mid-afternoon.

Toyota were the only other team to test on the Saturday, and they trailed the leading Ferrari by 1.2 seconds. Jarno Trulli’s best time was almost half a second faster than that of Timo Glock, as the pair tested different setups, as well as a revised cooling system on the TF108.

Speaking of the test, Trulli said that the team had turned a corner after a series of disappointing showings for the new car.

“Today has gone well. We did a lot of set-up and aerodynamic work, comparing different settings to get more information. Our target was to do as many laps as possible so we learn more about which areas we have to improve.”

“I think we know what direction to go in and we are working hard on this. We did all the laps we planned and no more because we are limited on kilometres during the year so we have to consider this, especially as the TF108 has been quite reliable so far.”

Meanwhile, Timo Glock echoed Jarno Trulli s renewed enthusiasm: “It has been quite a good day and the positive thing is we did all the set-up tests we planned to. We are continuing to make progress with understanding the car and understanding the effect of different set-up changes. The track was a little dusty in the morning but apart from that we have had very good conditions for testing so that helps. I am pretty pleased with how things have gone so far and I feel we are making good progres, and I hope this will continue for the next two days.”

Tomorrow Toyota are expected to carry out a full race simulation which will show everyone just what their car is capable of.
