McLaren to appeal

McLarenMcLaren have decided to press on with their appeal against the Hungarian stewards decision to bar McLaren from scoring any constructors points at last weekend s race.

Alonso was deemed to have blocked his team-mate in the final minutes of qualifying, ensuring that the Brit was unable to complete a flying lap and allowing the Spaniard to snatch pole position. The stewards investigated the drama and found both the team and Alonso guilty, barring the team from scoring any constructors points and demoting Alonso to sixth place on the grid.

Within an hour of the decision being made, McLaren notified the stewards they intended to appeal the decision. However, when the evening came, Ron Dennis said his team were unsure whether to proceed with the appeal or not.

It has now been made clear that McLaren are intending to pursue the appeal and have give notice to the FIA. Even without scoring points at the Hungarian Grand Prix, McLaren still lie 19 points ahead of Ferrari in the constructors championship, with six races left on the 2007 calendar.
