Villeneuve: Not a Hamilton fan

Much has been made in the press and amongst ex-Formula 1 drivers of Lewis Hamilton’s driving ability. However, former champion Jacques Villeneuve does not agree and has spoken out, criticising the driving of the young Brit. Speaking to Autosport, Villeneuve said he felt that Hamilton’s aggressive starts were a concern.

“When will these chopping moves stop?” Villeneuve asked. “Lewis is not getting penalised for these things and his behaviour off the start line has started to look the way Michael used to.

“So far, he has been lucky so we’ll see if it carries on. He makes progressive moves that would have got some of the other drivers black-flagged. Lewis is very fast but he has to step up to the plate and beat Alonso. And we still haven’t seen how he reacts under pressure – that will be interesting to watch.”

Hamilton has been Formula 1’s most successful rookie driver to date and is the only driver in history to have finished his first five races on the podium. He has also beaten Alonso in two out of the last three races.
