It's a nice problem to have.

Maybe the 11 mill bonus they handed out to all their staff for winning the WCC could have been 16 mill instead

decisions decisions,

though not as tough as the one to swap Seb for Alonso, or to delay bringing an engine update when the others will hit the ground with an extra 3 seconds on top of last years 2 second advantage

thats why MnM got paid the big bucks...errr...hold on...

What's an even nicer problem to have is getting free unearned money at the end of every year just for being the oldest team in the sport.

90 million head start is a truly difficult problem to have. Do you spend the money one 2 drivers or do you fund a complete B team, or do you spend it on redundancy payments for TPs and technical staff? Or do you just put it all into making sure you win titles?

Or you could use it on lobbying to get the rules changed so you move from 5th to 4th in the WCC

Yeah, that last one sounds somewhat familiar

Isn't the drivers super license priced in a similar way?

Yes it is, the reverse grid principle

Except there isn't one driver alone who gets a special discount licence price as well as a special grid position start each race 20 meters ahead of the pole sitter.

That wouldn't be fair since MS is no longer on the grid.

The way they've done it... Mercedes would have been better to just retire both cars at the last two races as they couldn't be caught...

Edit unless it was done in brackets...

Mercedes has reportedly dismissed claims it will begin the 2015 season with its 'old' V6 engine of last year. With the FIA agreeing to allow a development loophole under the existing 'freeze' rules, the sport's engine makers are currently contemplating how best to deploy their 32 upgrade 'tokens' throughout the 2015 season.

One rumour this week suggested Mercedes, having utterly dominated last year with its title-winning turbo V6, in fact planned to start the season with the 2014 unit in order to strategically upgrade to a 2015 specification over time. But Italy's Omnicorse insists those reports are untrue, claiming the Brackley team is "assembling the car that will be taken to the Jerez test, and it will have the power unit configuration of 2015".

"The rumour that has spread in recent days about Mercedes doing the first four races with the 2014 power unit was denied," the report added. Not only that, Omnicorse claims that Mercedes' 2015 engine will be significantly different this year, including a new Bosch injection system capable of turbo pressure to the regulations-maximum of 500 bar. The report claimed Mercedes' 2014 turbo was limited to little more than half that figure.

Johnathon Noble has a good article here on Mercedes( Imgoing to post it in the loophole thread too because it's about the impact of that). What he says is Mercedes will bring an upgraded engine to the start of the season, but only minimally changed, nit using many tokens. Then it can bring greater changes towards the end of the year in preparation for 2016 and the next freeze.

Ran across this today, I'll wait for our resident cunning linguist perfect the translating but if the ham fisted Google translator is correct, the 2014 Mercedes PU was pumping out about 808 Bhp if my calculations are correct. That's not bad for a 750 Bhp goal. Curious to see what Merc bring in 2015 since it talks about an estimated 850ish Bhp... shows why they can afford to keep an eye on the 2016 season. These engines are really fantastic.

Seems like Force India agree with some of the predictions on here about the Merc customers including Lotus lapping Ferrari and maybe RBR in the first half of the season

Mercedes' rivals have been warned to brace themselves for a step forward from Formula 1's benchmark engine supplier this year.

This weekend's first running of 2015 cars, in the first pre-season test at Jerez, should offer some insight into how much each engine manufacturer has improved over the winter.

Mercedes was well clear of its rivals throughout last season, and the early indications from Mercedes' partner teams is of the German car manufacturer having made good gains over the winter too.

Force India technical director Andrew Green has no doubts that the Mercedes 2015 power unit will be improved over the one that won 16 out of 19 races last year - with more to come later in the campaign.

"From the data we have it's definitely got better from last year," Green told AUTOSPORT.

"And I'm expecting another step in the middle of the season too. We're excited about that."

Lotus CEO Matthew Carter said that his team had been impressed with the way its new relationship with Mercedes was working, and was predicting good things from his new power unit.

He also reckons that with Ferrari and Renault eager to make the most of opportunities afforded by in-season development, that Mercedes could start the campaign very strongly having made a bigger push to find improvements for the first race.

"Having Mercedes is a huge opportunity for us," said Carter.

"We don't know what Honda is going to be like, but Ferrari and Renault are obviously looking at doing changes later in the year - which means there will not be that much early on.

"That could give us a bit of a big advantage earlier in the season."
