Maybe they had no choice about getting rid of the second best driver on the grid? Maybe it was Alonso's decision and Vettel was the only option left for Ferrari ( of the reasonably big hitters)

Alonso has been the only person that has put Ferrari on the map, without Alonso Ferrari would be nowhere. You would think Ferrari would do anything to keep Alonso happy and do anything to hold on to him, but then again Alonso has been frustrated with his red donkey and having issues with a couple of Ferrari personnel. Anyway Alonso will be off with McLaren, Ferrari's lost is McLaren's gain, if of course McLaren give him a offer.
