Ferrari is spending a whopping EUR 40 million as it steps up its off-track technology at Maranello. Having struggled in 2014 and subsequently undergone a revolutionary shakeup, the fabled Italian marque is now spending big on a dynamic platform that will allow in-factory testing of the entire car-plus-engine package.

Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport said the move is part of Ferrari's new collaboration with the Austrian giant AVL, even though the research and simulation specialists were formerly closely aligned with Red Bull. Amid the tight restrictions on actual track testing, the AVL platform will allow Ferrari to run and develop the car and systems including brake-by-wire at simulated speeds of up to 360kph, the report said.

La Gazzetta said the AVL technology, also falling outside the strict limits on wind tunnel testing, will be housed in a special building at Maranello and also connected to a driver simulator.

Ferrari is sticking with its unique 'pullrod' front suspension layout for a fourth consecutive season, according to Italy's Autosprint. The Maranello team has persevered with the approach since 2012, despite the fact pullrod suspension had not previously been seen at the front of a F1 car since Minardi in 2001.

It was reported throughout 2014 that Ferrari's pullrod suspension might explain Kimi Raikkonen's notable deficit compared to Fernando Alonso last year. The Finn shone with the responsive and easy-to-tweak front of the 2013 Lotus, but he identified the front handling of his Ferrari last year as a key complaint.

A pullrod layout can mean a lower nose, suspension and centre of gravity, but it is also known to be difficult to tune and less responsive to setup changes. Alonso, who also raced the pullrod-based Minardi in 2001, has now switched to McLaren but Autosprint reports that Ferrari is not therefore reverting to the more conventional pushrod system for the 2015 car, codenamed '666'.

Correspondent Roberto Chinchero said: "Raikkonen has complained constantly about a lack of precision at the front, which is a characteristic of the pullrod suspension. And the Finn's style is not so different to that of Sebastian Vettel, who also thrived with a precise and responsive front end," he added.

But Raikkonen said recently he is not expecting to struggle this year like he did in 2014, even though most teams are simply evolving their cars for the second season of the all-new rules. "Next year is different," he insisted, "the car is different, so I don't expect to have a similar season and we should be where we should be."

It would seem there are a few people around who believe Ferrari has the nose right:

...[Force India's, Andy Green]... thinks some teams have been dealt an advantage by the 2015 rule change, as the grid next year is expected to be filled with noses resembling those of this year's Ferrari and Mercedes cars.

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport said those two teams are very close to already complying with the 2015 rules.

Green said that is a "big head start" for Ferrari, and particularly Mercedes, having already gone through the long and expensive process of crash-testing the impressively short nose on its dominant W05 car.

He explained that the nose is central to the entire "aerodynamic philosophy" of the car, meaning Mercedes and Ferrari's rivals now have "a lot of lessons" to learn.

Stefan Ruitenberg  wrote:">A closer look at the 2015 nose cone regulations

...Is there much room for development?

Insiders and specialists agree that the wording of the rules have left very little room for design freedom due to a tighter grip on the front wing and nose cone this year. Still, nothing is impossible, and even a nose cone based on the 2014 Mercedes nose is a possibility, even though the U-shape of the nose will be outlawed.

The nose design of 2014 that comes closest to the 2015 regulations is without a doubt that of the Ferrari F14T. While exact measurements are obviously not available, only minor modifications seem necessary to make the nose comply with the new regulations, albeit likely not one of the best designs that one can imagine.

Just like the year before, the new rules attempt to lower the noses because of safety and creates headaches with engineers on how to claw back the lost downforce. The rear is especially likely going to suffer, as getting air underneath the car and into the rear diffuser was the main reason for the high noses in the first place. Those who have managed to master the new nose regulations and re-gained aerodynamic performance are hence likely to be front runners. Given they are equipped with a competitive engine.

I should clean up the grammatical errors; but, I can't do it now... will try, at some point.
At least, the gist of it is understandable!

My apologies!!

It's called Cedric Cornebois. Is an engineer Mercedes that few days strengthened the group directed by Mattia Binotto, after the French engineer has completed the period of gardening leave started in September. It is not a first line, but an engineer who for the past three years has seen the birth and grow to Brixworth the envied motor Mercedes PU 106A. Along with Wolf Zimmermann, German arrived at Maranello from AMG, here's another specialist who has led to useful information about Ferrari unit of three-pointed star that has monopolised the season 2014 collecting 19 wins out of 16 Gp!

THE "HOLE" IN THE RULES HE FOUND JAMES ALLISON
Ferrari are working hard on 059/3 power unit with 32 counters that the FIA regulation grants in 2015. The changes will be diluted over the course of the Championship, after the Chairman, Sergio Marchionne, and team principal, Maurizio Arrivabene, got an important political victory that does not impose to freeze the engines at the end of February, as James Allison, dt del Cavallino, had found a "hole" in the rules, not being written for the freezing date 2015.

500 BAR pressure in NEW INJECTION SYSTEM
In Maranello are perfectly aware that they will not be able to introduce any changes on the power unit before the start of the Championship in Melbourne, but they have planned a series of interventions in the upper part of the engine which are drastically reduce the gap by Mercedes. Some developments relate to the direct injection that will finally get to 500 bar pressure thanks to the injectors of the Magneti Marelli and adequate gasoline pump, while the 6 cylinder turbo last year do not exceed 350 bar. Other interventions are oriented on the Pistons that are developed in collaboration with AVL in Sports Management and overeating: Ferrari will be turbine and Honeywell's largest compressor that will require larger heat exchanger, maintaining the current location, with the two elements next to each other and not separated as the Mercedes engine.

THE ... PETRONAS PETROL SURPRISE
Is emerging, though, that one of the highlights of Mercedes would be the gasoline of Petronas. Giuseppe D'arrigo, anile European Manager Petronas Lubricants International, has never "quantified" the advantage that Elkton technicians were able to guarantee to the Mercedes, but there were those who whispered in the paddock by 10 seconds at the Grand Prix.

A FUEL THAT IS FORTY HORSES?
Ferrari would have discovered that the fuel effect on power unit of silver arrows may have been even greater: there are those who talk of some forty horses is the result of "chemistry". An enormity, if one considers that the regulation on fuels is binding as imposing petrol with similar characteristics to those who go to the Distributor pump. The argument, of course, is top secret, and Maranello are well stitched mouths, disproving any inference.

AN ADDITIVE FOUND BY CHEMISTS OF VILLASTELLONE?
Petronas scientists found on the outskirts of Turin, where there is a research centre in Moscow (the Malaysian have acquired an Italian excellence that was of the Fiat group...), in collaboration with the "chemicals" made by Mercedes, would find a new additive that would make the Petronas fuel much more anti-detonating the competition ones, allowing you to find the best MBT (Maximum Brake Torque)by varying the turn-on time to ensure the most effective flame propagation in the combustion chamber that can translate into a significant increase of power in addition to a reduction in consumption. Two data emerged very clearly in the 2014 season and ...

NO SMARTS, ALL ADJUST
The first, to avoid unnecessary controversy. It is a perfectly regular petrol type that the FIA has repeatedly checked and approved. No tricks, then, but the result of a very deep work that would give incredible results. In Maranello the mouths sewn, but there sorprenderemmo at all if it were "simulated" the miracle of Petronas gas with additives prohibited (remember the toluol was the first turbo?) by regulation to achieve the same calorific value, to see that data would also with the much reviled 059/3. In short, you would discover that the engine which cost way to Luca Marmorini in spring, from a point of view, perhaps endothermic wasn't quite so disastrous as it was passed?

MCLAREN HAS SUFFERED DIFFERENT GASOLINE?
If we find a confirmation, we can recall that McLaren, last year, did not use the Petronas fuel to power the turbo 6-cylinder Mercedes, preferring the Mobil gasoline, which is bound by a contract of longtime sponsorship. The engines dedicated to MP4-29 ran onto a sandbank Brixworth different from those used for the Mercedes engines, Williams (he used Petronas though has a sponsorship contract Petrobras) and Force India. And perhaps it is no coincidence that the team of Mallya, who had a much lower budget than that of Woking, was for a long time in front of the McLaren in the constructors that Dennis ' team has finished fifth place finish. Of course the MP4-29 was not a lightning war (the suspension to "Shutter" will be abiurata this year), and it is said that in the second half of the season could also count on help Petronas to cling to at least fourth place in the world in teams ...

THE SHELL MUST NOW REACT QUICKLY
The "pressure" now will be transferred on the Shell that is Ferrari's fuel supplier: English specialists have supported the team of Maranello with a series of gasoline which have been evolved in the course of the season 2014, but without achieving the results achieved by Petronas. The 2015 Championship, therefore, opens with a new line of research that might affect the performance of the car that will run for the first time on the track from 1 to 4 February in Jerez, in the first collective test session. Indeed the British had found a chemical additive (ferrocene?) can "give" 40 HP, but was corrosive of different parts of the V6, starting with the candles (but not only) for which was not guaranteed the "life" of the engine for the cycle of five Gp. and without reliability would not have gone anywhere.

AND WHETHER THE ADDITIVE WAS IN THE LUBRICANT?
There are those who argue that prohibited additives in gasoline, can be taken to the combustion chamber through the lubrication system, "pescandoli" from the bottom of the V6 Turbo. All OEMs would have conducted the tests, but you must make the molecule drawing between the piston segments, significantly increasing oil consumption that is not ideal if you want to keep under control the reliability. In short, a road passable, but full of risks and difficulties. And this is the beauty of f. 1 which always tries a clever way to ensure legally what the rules prohibit and. ..

ARRIVABENE IS EXPECTING A NICE REACTION
Maurizio Arrivabene is aware that Mercedes has the best package yet developing the unbeatable W05 Hybrid, but team principal del Cavallino is confident Ferrari can trace china, pointing perhaps to those two or three victories at Christmas lunch with reporters might seem just a hope, but that in his head might materialize in the second part of the 2015 season. Maybe with the "right" fuel and ...

As two Spaniards depart Ferrari, another arrives. Tester Pedro de la Rosa and, of course, number 1 driver Fernando Alonso have departed the fabled Maranello marque amid its radical restructuring. But at least one Spaniard has arrived in their wake, Italian and Spanish sources have revealed.

His name is Toni Cuquerella, who worked in F1 for Super Aguri, BMW and - most recently - HRT. Since the Hispania collapse, he has worked for BMW in the German touring car series DTM. But now, he is returning to F1 with the sport's most famous team, reportedly in an overseeing role for Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen's race engineers Ricciardi Adami and Dave Greenwood respectively. Interestingly, Greenwood has arrived freshly from ailing backmarker Marussia, where he was chief engineer, to work with Raikkonen.

Ferrari will start the 2015 season where it left off last year – with very little hope of claiming a podium – at least early in the new campaign.

A spate of new hirings, revolving around four-time world champion Sebastian VettelImage1, which includes Jean-Eric VergneImage2 and Esteban GutierrezImage3 as testers, a key Mercedes engineering man in Jock ClearImage4, the arrival of Maurizio ArrivabeneImage5, all propped up by the vision of Fiat executive Sergio MarchionneImage6, has been expected to pump life into the Italian team.

But there’ll be little sign of that come Melbourne in March.

Italian media reports that Ferrari is only aiming to get both its cars into Q3 during the season-opener in March and that a podium could be very well out of reach.

This is despite the loophole which allows teams to develop their engines – within the designated tokens for the year – through the year.

That, though, has given some hope to Ferrari for a late surge in performance – expected towards the end of the season.

"We start behind but we will keep our heads down and try to win," said an optimistic Marchionne.

The final five or six races – starting from the Japanese or Russian Grands Prix late in September and mid-October respectively – is the time when Ferrari could be expected to improve significantly.

"My hope is that we will see improved performance on the track at the end of the season. I think the most interesting part of 2015 will be the last races," Marchionne pointed out.

If aesthetics mean anything, Ferrari will have a better year in 2015. Last year, the F14-T - resembling a 'vacuum cleaner' according to some critics - was among the many cars of 2014 that sported an awkward look in deference to the sport's new rules.

Many of the responsible faces at Ferrari, having finished 2014 a distant fourth in the championship, have now departed amid the Maranello team's radical shakeup. A survivor, however, is technical boss James Allison, the former Lotus designer and Briton whose newly-named SF15-T is his first full scarlet creation. Ferrari insider Leo Turrini revealed this week that the vacuum-cleaner style nose of the 2014 is now gone ahead of the new season.

But Allison said the FIA's nose rule tweaks, made primarily for aesthetic reasons, is "not really so big a deal". Overall, however, he revealed: "This year's car is certainly an awful lot better looking than last year's car -- prettier round the front, tighter round the back, and that makes for a nice car." The 2015 Ferrari will be launched on Friday.

On the very same day, Ferrari customer Sauber will also unveil its 2015 car, the C34, on its official website. The Swiss team also contradicted rumours the car may not be ready for the Jerez test on Sunday by announcing that Marcus Ericsson will be at the wheel in southern Spain for the opening day of the first winter test.
