I think Mercedes knew Lewis' 'party' tendencies and popularity with the younger fans, a market where Mercedes have struggled for market share traditionally.

That's too true; however, it's not the younger fans who can actually afford their cars.

I don't think that is true, there are lots of wealthy young people these days, a lot of them in the technology sector. But they don't buy Mercedes because many see Mercedes as a old persons car and would rather buy luxury Japanese cars.

p.s. does Hamilton actually drive a Mercedes, aside from every two weeks in F1?

I'm sure that Mercedes has given him a top of the range Merc, but I haven't seen too much news of him driving one, but as I don't follow him in the slightest apart from what I read on here, I'm the wrong person to ask.

Rumours of Hamilton being replaced for Monaco:

http://autosprint.corrieredellosport.it ... okieAccept

Interesting, maybe his playboy lifestyle is catching up to him....

English translation of the article below:

"Lewis Hamilton is the rock star of Formula 1. It can be said without fear of contradiction. If Vettel runs in the van, Lewis guide (also) a Pagani. And he loves the good life and the beautiful world is a friend of the most famous pop stars, has the skin covered with tattoos, the private jet, attends fashion shows, is the testimonial of various brands from the fashion world. But Circus is certainly more that of James Hunt and time to a report on Fulvio Solms Corriere dello Sport today, Mercedes may not have liked some excesses of the pilot followed the disastrous Grand Prix of Spain, which began with the accidental ramming against fellow rosberg that at that moment driving the race. After the Barcelona weekend the reigning world champion flew to Cannes, where he is holding the 2016 edition of the Film Festival, jumping tests at the Montmelo although the team had asked for "cooperation in Hamilton, furious that the official version It involves a sharing of responsibilities. Mercedes perhaps even asking - to aim at most of these tests and give an image of unity - to stop at Montmelo and turn the day originally intended to rookie Esteban Ocon (the other day is already provided for Rosberg ). however, Hamilton did not change their plans: healthcare company and his plane brings him to Nice. "

Then the night between Monday and Tuesday on the French Riviera would happen something that would alter the Mercedes leaders , who convened Wehrlein to replace Ocon and train , who knows , with a view to replacing the upcoming Monte Carlo GP ( and which also impose , according to the regulations , the team to be excluded Hamilton also post Silverstone test) . There is talk of "a very long evening of Hamilton at Gotha Club Cannes , return to the hotel in a form not brilliant . Maybe stolen photos . " What is certain is that the relationship between the sample and the team are at historic lows ."

More news on the Monaco Lewis Hamilton situation...

The next wild rumour is now firing in formula one, ahead of the championship's 'jewel in the crown' event in Monaco this weekend. Corriere dello Sport, an Italian newspaper, reports that a mysterious incident involving Lewis Hamilton's attendance at red carpet events in Cannes last week could mean the world champion sits out Monaco this weekend.

The story could tie in with Pascal Wehrlein's last-minute test in the Mercedes last Wednesday in Barcelona. "Yes, I would be ready," Wehrlein told Sky Italia after testing on Wednesday, when asked if he feels ready for a race seat at the silver works team. The young German admitted the call-up took him by surprise, as he received the phone call at 8pm on Tuesday evening and only had his Manor-branded helmet with him.

Corriere dello Sport did not have any details of the apparent Cannes nightclub incident except to say that it might involve "stolen photographs". Autosprint, an Italian specialist publication, said the incident reportedly happened at Cannes' Gotha Club. The reports also said Mercedes officials were already not happy with Hamilton, who had been asked to test in Barcelona but refused.

F1 legend Alain Prost, meanwhile, played down the crash between Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in Barcelona, although some drew parallels with his own legendary run-ins with Ayrton Senna. "These things happen in racing and you have to accept that," Prost told Germany's Auto Bild. "Of course if it happened every weekend, that would no longer be acceptable." (GMM)

Probably just a rumour but it does show that the 'whispers' around Hamilton's lack of performance have started.

Perhaps a bigger question is why Mercedes has let this run for days without a response. Usually their PR machine is very quick.

Maybe this explains the photographs in question?

They are just good friends.

But Formula 1 British World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Victoria Secret's model Barbara Palvin certainly aren't quelling the rumours of a mutual attraction.

The pair, who are both L'Oreal Ambassadors, were snapped at Gotha nightclub in Cannes on Saturday night - the latest in a series outings for the popular pair.

Arriving together in the same vehicle, the pair seemed to be in a hurry to access the venue, which has been frequented by various stars during the film festival fortnight.

However, once they noticed they were being photographed, both Barbara and Lewis seemed very shy and looked like they did not want to be seen too closely.

Together, the duo were attending a live performance by musician Chris Brown, who was later making an appearance...

Can we please limit the talk about Lewis to on track action and not who he shares his champagne with or who he hangs out with; this is a F1 forum, not People magazine.

Well, it was at the race and not in his private life, but you're right: that Canadian buffoon is an eyesore on this page :irked:

I should ban you for that comment, you have broken the following rule...

The stewards found nothing wrong with LH cutting the chicane and they also found that above rule does not apply to that buffoon because it is superseded by the cardinal rule 1: incompetent buffoons are fair game.
