I know the addition to the circuit only removed two or three corners, but they seem to have really taken something away from the track.

I raced in one of the final races on the old Grand Prix track back in 2010 and I can tell you, going through the Abbey Chicane, downhill under the bridge and then throwing it into the fast left at Priory was such a thrill. I don't see that the new part of the track adds anything.

I agree (and I'm envious you raced there!) - turn 5 and the Wellington straight are probably the most unexciting elements of the new circuit. A DRS zone...yawn!

Then again I still pine for old Hockenheim! :hehe:

Yeah, I did sporadic races across two seasons in Historic Formula Ford 2000. Great fun :)

I miss Hockenheim as well! When I think back to 1999, 2000, 2001 and the low downforce slipstreaming battles...no need for DRS.

Merc way ahead again after they turn up their engine and take the first row. Hamilton granted pole even though he exceeded track limits. Good news for the hotel industry that Lewis didn't have his time deleted! Red Bulls take the second row with Ricciardo loosing to a teammate in qually for the first time this season. Ferrari have the third row after becoming unbalanced by the Silverstone wind according to Raikkonen. Vettel looses his sixth position due to a gearbox penalty and will start 11th.

Raikkonen: "I kind of expected it to be a bit tricky here and that's how it turned out to be," said Raikkonen.
"We don't have enough speed. In the windy conditions, it's just tricky for us. "My car was the best it's been all weekend in qualifying but it's still not easy.
"We are a bit stuck with certain things.
"With the set-up we have, we can change a lot but it will not help because there are certain issues where we struggle with the handling. "Is it the circuit or the conditions? It's more the conditions."

Yes he did on his first attempt in Q3. I was referring to his pole lap where he went over with all four wheels which the stewards let go.

Stewards made the right call given the area of the track that LH put all 4 tires over was not in a penalizing area. The 2 Mercs look to be posed for another 1, 2 finish. Ferrari should open the bank vault to coax Brawn back into F1 and start building for next year.

Looks like Pirelli is imposing maximum lap limits for its tires at Silverstone. Damn plastic tires.

"The tire supplier stressed to teams that they should still base their race strategies around their own wear data, rather than taking the number of laps given by Pirelli as a guarantee of tire life. Pirelli has suggested nobody should exceed 26 laps on the hard tire, 28 laps on the medium, and 15 laps on the soft compound in Sunday's race at Silverstone.
It explained that the medium is predicted to last longer than the hard because the harder compound has experienced some graining this weekend.
"Our advice is not to exceed these numbers during the race," the company added."
