The surroundings were gorgeous!!

As for racing... Not much of that in sight!!Image

For a bit, it seemed we were going to see the two Mercedes
head-to-head! And, then suddenly... nada... team orders?

The Canadian GP was about as dull as it gets. I gave it a 2!

This is quite a shame as the race in Canada usually produces exciting unpredictable racing. Imo the oppressive rules have conspired to choke off one of the best races of the year.

The constant need to conserve the tires as they can only withstand a couple laps flat out, and the constant need to conserve fuel means that the cars are never really racing each other but are racing the race distance. This also means the driver that can master the lift and coast the best is now the top rated in F1. And finally of course the limited development of the engines perpetuates the status quo!

So what we saw in Montreal is the way F1 has (d)evolved under these rules. The Merc is the fastest over a lap in qually, once at the front of the grid (everything else being equal) it then becomes a battle of tire care and lift and coast skills between Hamilton and Rosberg for an easy win. We were then robbed of any hope of a 'battle' at the front with Hamilton struggling on low fuel by the engineers telling Rosberg to also conserve even more. Rosberg I think had sensed Hamilton's situation and even asked about his teammates fuel situation but the team refused to answer citing the rules before instructing him to do more lifting and coasting!

There was hardly any racing going on with the cars circulating well below their capabilities, having Vettel and Massa out of position on the grid provided the only bit of interest in the race.

Slow is the new fast in F1.
