At least this time he didn't ruin someones race; you know a driver knocks too many people off when the consolation is that he didn't ruin Paul's race.
Mark my words, Bottas will win a race in 2013/2014 - Me, March 13th 2013

^ This is looking less likely day by day....

If you have standards they must apply to all drivers, do not suggest doing something is fine for one but bad for another.

There is an explanation, it's never his fault. :D

Sigh... there's too much agreement in this thread. If only there was someone here defending Maldonado.

<EDIT WB> has departed for good I hope.
Lewis:
"In Turkey 2010, I led the race and was told to back off to save fuel and JB had also been told to back off and hold position. Then he overtook me, just as Sebastian did to Mark. That was tough. So I understand the feelings Mark had."

Obviously there have been worse contacts made, with worse consequences, that got no penalty.

Ok, I'll have a go at, well, not quite defending Maldonado, but more explaining my thoughts in brief.

I like Maldonado, I think he is clearly very quick, and has the potential to win races when at the front as demonstrated in Barcelona. His problem is in his aggression clearly, as combined with a lack of patience it is a recipe for disaster in open wheel racing. Now if his driving matures a little (lets not forget it is still only his 2nd season in F1!), and he actually learns from his mistakes this season, as well as brushing up on the rules a little, he could still yet be a big success in the long term.

I'd make it clear that I think that he's been at fault for pretty much every one of the incidents he's been involved in, but these things do happen.

On the other hand, if he can't tame the impatience and aggression or find a balance, then I don't necessarily think that his racing technique is a bad thing - it's just not a suitable combination for open wheel racing. Instead, I'd love to see him move on to a series such as DTM or other touring car series, or NASCAR. In those environments his skillset could see him right at the sharp end. Others may see this as a step down, however I watch those other series too, and have never seen it that way.

I think that about sums up my thinking on Maldonado at the moment.
My favourite F1 drivers of the past 25 yrs. (Note - it is possible to like rivals!): Lauda, Prost, Senna, Rosberg, Mansell, Alboreto, Piquet Snr., Barbazza, Alesi, Zanardi, Hakkinen, Hill, M.Schumacher, Coulthard, Raikkonen, Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel...

Given his tendency to lash out when he feels aggrieved, Monaco 2012, Spa 2011 for example; and the fact he doesn't seem to be learning, how many prangs and no scores does it take to learn that his method of driving is not suitable for success in F1; take away his win and he has done a piss poor job this season in a decent car that's capable of consistent points!

 And still he says he's done no wrong, this is the worrying thing to me!!! Senna and Grosjean have had their fair share of prangs, but there is not that malicious intent involved, and they fess up to their errors.....and are learning, the errors are becoming less.

Zurich_Allen-maybe another series yes. I can see Maldonado and Plato demolishing each other :hehe:
But if he went to NASCAR his antics could do serious damage.

In NASCAR he'd get his lights punched out. Or at least a helmet thrown at him. :hehe:

No fault whatsoever in your calm logic here ZA, but you are making a supposition about the events and you're not factoring in intent, which is the reason we're discussing him in the first place.

Factor out the two intentional uses of his car as a ramming device on a another driver's car all we'd have is an aggressive driver that could be too exuberant given that this is only his second F1 season. When you add the two events however it completely changes the picture and allows everyone to question all of the other incidents this year.

There is a pattern, and as it's been said, there is never an acknowledgement of culpability on his part.

Only if he bumped into him and made him drop his tray or tried to make a pass in the Mcdonalds queue.

Nah, he'd go for him anyway. Have you seen him with photographers? :hehe:

On another note, someone likes Maldonado. Top Mclaren folk have been overheard saying if Lewis leaves they'd consider him or Grosjean. :yikes: Are they serious??? Perhaps its to ensure they have someone to take Lewis out when he's not driving for them.
