Massa ‘only wasting petrol’ slams journalist

An Italian journalist has admitted he is more than unimpressed with Felipe Massa’s apparent progress in China. Already before the Chinese grand prix, La Stampa correspondent Stefano Mancini was calling on Ferrari to axe the struggling Brazilian driver.

Massa then qualified twelfth in Shanghai, equalling his Sepang achievement, but dropped to thirteenth by the time the chequered flag waved.

“I think that as far as my race was concerned, this was a step forward compared to the first two races,” he insisted.

Mancini, however, is continuing to severely criticise the 30-year-old.

“A Ferrari that would like to introduce a third car is still racing with just one driver,” he wrote. “Massa is a useless presence; not yet scoring a point and only wasting petrol.”

Interestingly, however, Mancini is no longer one of those who think Ferrari should immediately drop Massa and replace him with the team’s top development driver Sergio Perez.

“He’s too young and inexperienced to do anything about it (Ferrari’s situation): better to take him from Sauber at the end of the year,” he said.

Looks like a brother of Manchester City manager is a Massa hater. :hehe:

I was thinking during the weekend that Ferrari might kick him out on his ear during that break before the SPanish GP. Supposedly, there'll be massive updates on the car for Barcelona, so why not update one of their drivers as well? :)
Lewis:
"In Turkey 2010, I led the race and was told to back off to save fuel and JB had also been told to back off and hold position. Then he overtook me, just as Sebastian did to Mark. That was tough. So I understand the feelings Mark had."

I think massa has real talent, but he has lost it since his crash. He won't admit it, but he's been effected by it.

I know alonzo is a fantastic driver, but there should not be THAT much difference. :wavey: massa

In the standings he's making the Ferrari look like an HRT, if that continues I can't see him racing for the whole season.

Perez Massa swap for Sauber as well

Doesn't sound like a very good deal to me.

If I was Massa it is what I would push for if I knew the writing was on the Ferrari wall

This journalist is right. F1 is the harshest of environments, but there's no question that Felipe is really struggling.

He needs to get out of Ferrari and into a team where is not the tail gunner for some guy that appears in Dolmio adverts. Unfortunately, he's stayed or has been kept at Ferrari for too long.

I've said it before, but Ferrari's top priority is to work on the car, and their infrastructure. E.g. problems with wind tunnels. I'm personally disinterested in complaints about Massa's performance or lack of performance, i will only be convinced by discussions as to whether or not he's giving feedback about the shortcomings of the car which could help the engineers and designers improve the car.

And I find it unlikely that a relative newcomer such as Perez would be able to give as good feedback concerning the car as the much more experienced Massa.

The only opinion that counts is the powers that be at Ferrari; but given Massa's performance compared to Alonso since his return in 2010, he is on borrowed time. But I'd rather Sergio Perez stay at Sauber and mature before moving to a 'big' team, if Perez does go; I'd rather see Sauber reserve driver Esteban Gutiérrez given a chance instead of a swap for Massa!

Massa for Sutil I think.

EDIT: And freakishly Massa is the only driver not to score a point so far this year, apart from the new teams.

That really is terrible!

I bet Massa cringes everytime his phone rings. It might be someone inviting him to HQ for a chat. Maybe he is waiting for a text ala Torro Rosso
