Lewis would have made the pass without having all 4 off track had Nico left at least 1/2 car's width. The thing is, he left nothing. Not only that, but he moved/blocked towards leaving no space, instead of Lewis attempting the pass while Nico was there or Lewis running out of track because he couldnt manage to brake/turn. Sure, Nico's move was not all completely sudden... it was gradual... I wouldnt say it was a prick move, but it was that: A blocking move which left no space on the track for the passing car.

They will probably clarify this on the driver's meetings.... but Nico made a bad move. Most stewards would have punished him, so lets just leave it at he got off luckily. The fact that Lewis got by, I think was what made the stewards take no decision against Nico... but then because they let that one go... they sort of had to do the same for Alonso... who knows, but the stewards ate it.

Like MOA mentioned earlier on, I wouldn't mind seeing a few good old gravel traps springing up around the place. They seem like an endangered species these days, but they had their uses.

How can you say that Hamilton didn't gain an advantage? he carried more speed because he went wide, lessening the turn in angle means more speed can be retained! I see no difference between inside and outside or the track, and advantage has been gained... If Hamilton stayed within the confines of the track, he would have remained behind Rosberg, simple as that!

No. He never went 'wide' lessening the turn in angle. You're talking about what Kimi does at Spa every year at the start, THAT is going wide and lessening the turn in angle.

Hamilton was already turned in and following the tow from Rosberg and chose the right side, while at the same time Rosberg swerved right as well! By this time, Lewis had the speed and chose to go right again (off track!) to overtake. He could've chosen left this time around, but maybe he was unsighted or just didn't have enough time as he was inches behind Rosbergs exhaust already.



At the very start of the video, you see Hamilton has just made a right corner, and then after going straight for a second, he swerves right to overtake. How is this 'lessening turn in angle'??
Point being, he gained absolutely no advantage in terms of speed/time by going offtrack.

Alright, I am remembering the event differently than appears in the video; for some reason I remember Hamilton driving around the outside of the corner, not leaving the track coming out of the corner, I stand corrected! But I still stand by my comment that Rosberg didn't get punished because Hamilton made the pass despite being driven off the road.

No the incident was investigated after the race, so they hadn't taken action yet, probably enabled by Hamilton getting passed anyway removing the urgency, but I think they made the decision so they could get a good view of it, checking the on-board and asking the drivers. The problem with the rule about "crowding/ forcing a driver of the circuit" is like many of the FIA's rules, a matter of opinion. Had there been a wall or gavel there, I think Rosberg would've been punished, for the danger factor. He got away with it, by claiming he didn't know where Hamilton was exactly (behind or alongside slightly), if there had been a wall, the interpretation might have been stricter (Rosberg ought to have left room just in case).

Once they said the Hamilton incident was investigated, they'd have to investigate the Alonso one after too, which was annoying during the race as Alonso was still behind Rosberg.
