The FIA have set a date for Team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes to appeal their punishment from the Hungarian Grand Prix race weekend. Following a controversial Qualifying Session, Stewards punished the Woking based outfit for behaviour which they felt was ‘prejudicial to the interests of the competition and to the interests of motor sport generally’. The punishment served was to void all Constructor points accrued during the race and the team representative expelled from the post race podium celebrations. Read more... According to The Sun newspaper, Flavio Briatore is to take control of the ailing English football club Queens Park Rangers (QPR). The tabloid, the highest circulated English daily newspaper in the World, reports that the 57 year old Italian is to takeover the club for the princely sum of £22 million. As part of the deal, Flavio, the Managing Director of ING Renault F1, would write off the £17 million debt the Loftus Road based club have accumulated after a series of torturous seasons in Division 1 of the Football League. After a highly controversial weekend, Lewis Hamilton will begin the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix ‘Magyar Nagydíj’ from Pole Position. Nick Heidfeld, in the BMW Sauber, will start alongside just ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. In what has already been a controversial weekend, Renault’s Giancarlo Fisichella has joined Fernando Alonso in receiving a five position penalty.
The Italian badly blocked Spyker’s Sakon Yamamoto during yesterday’s Qualifying Session. The Japanese driver, attempting to complete his second flying lap on his debut with the Spyker team, was held up for most of his lap behind the Renault. This left the Japanese driver 22nd and last. Ron Dennis has said that Lewis Hamilton has only himself to blame for a qualifying cock-up which left him seconds short of completing a final flying lap. According to Dennis, McLaren’s Team Principle, Hamilton failed to follow instructions earlier in the session, leading to a pit stop fiasco where he had to queue behind Alonso losing time and an opportunity to challenge his team-mate for pole. The FIA have released the provisional calendar for the 2008 F1 Season. Again, Melbourne will kick off the season with the Australian Grand Prix, whilst France retains its race from Magny Cours. 2008 also sees the introduction of the street race around Singapore, and the European Grand Prix from the new Valencia circuit – pending circuit approval by the FIA.
